Position Overview
The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Chambers Judicial Assistant 1 (salary range 12) to support the Utqiagvik Superior Court Judge. This highly responsible position serves as judicial assistant and as the case manager/in‑court clerk for probate and children’s cases, including child in need of aid and delinquency matters.
Work HoursFull‑time court employees are scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one‑hour lunch break.

- Prepare, organize, and distribute judicial correspondence, orders, judgments, and other court documents.
- Manage the judge’s calendar, meetings, and appointments.
- Screen telephone calls and visitors with tact and discretion.
- Ensure timely submission of required reports such as pay affidavits, judicial leave reports, and pending decision listings.
- Coordinate travel arrangements and review related travel and compensation reports.
- Assist and train law clerks in case management systems and motion tracking.
- Provide technical support to judicial officers.
- Support the Clerk of Court as assigned.
- Serve as the case management clerk for all children’s and probate cases by opening new cases, calendaring hearings, processing orders and pleadings, monitoring files for accuracy and required action, and maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
- Two years of progressively responsible, fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.
- Work experience as a legal administrative assistant is preferred.
- Applicants transferring from another State of Alaska agency may receive consideration for advance step placement.
- Substitution for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience is available through:
- Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
- Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System.
This position is in the partially‑exempt service and serves at‑will to the appointing authority.
