What You Will Be DoingThe Law Office Assistant 1 position is responsible for providing administrative support to prosecutors within the Criminal Division Central Office. You will perform a wide variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Typing and formatting legal documents
- Performing data entry
- Organizing documents in electronic files
- Communicating verbally and in writing with outside agencies and individuals to accomplish tasks

- 37.5‑hour work week; 12 paid holidays; personal leave accrual starting at 6 hours per pay period (≈21 days annually) and increasing with years of service.

One year of experience that involves significant customer service contact, exchanging information related to procedures for securing services or authorizations, or performing standard administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence, filing, entering data, and maintaining logs. Regular, proficient use of electronic management information systems, word processing, and other standard business software is required.
SubstitutionsAny combination of post‑secondary education (accredited 2.67 semester hours or 4 quarter hours) and/or applicable experience may substitute for the required experience. An associate’s degree or specific vocational‑technical certification in a legal support career area may substitute for the required experience. Vocational‑technical certification in a generalized business support career area may substitute for up to six months of the required experience.
SpecialNote (All Levels)
- Must be able to obtain a Notary Public upon hire and pass a criminal background check for access to criminal record networks such as APSIN and NCIC/NLETS.
- Some positions require regular overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Educational transcripts if using education to meet the minimum qualifications.
- Three professional references with daytime telephone and email addresses (one must be a current or former supervisor).
- Last two performance evaluations or supervisory letters of recommendation if unavailable.
- Use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) requires a background check and fingerprinting.
