Overview
Law Office Assistant 1 position providing administrative support to prosecutors within the Utqiagvik District Attorney’s Office. Tasks include typing and formatting legal documents, data entry, organizing documents in electronic files, and communicating with outside agencies and individuals verbally and in writing to accomplish tasks.
What You Will Be DoingThis recruitment is exempt from the Hiring Freeze (Administrative Order 358). The role involves supporting prosecutors with a variety of administrative duties and contributing to the processing of cases as part of the office team.

- 37.5 hour work week; 12 paid holidays; personal leave accrual starting at 6 hours per pay period (about 21 days annually); general office hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with flexibility around core business hours.

PI01A1 – Law Office Assistant 1
One year of experience involving customer service, information exchange for services or procedures, and/or standard administrative tasks (e.g., preparing correspondence or reports, filing, data entry, payments, logs) with proficient use of electronic management information systems and standard software.
Substitutions:
- Post-secondary education from an accredited college or university (2.67 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month) or applicable experience may substitute for the required experience.
- An associate’s degree or vocational-technical certification in a legal support field may substitute for the required experience.
- Other vocational-technical certifications may substitute for up to 6 months of the required experience.
Special Note (All Levels):
Most positions require the ability to obtain a Notary Public upon hire and pass a criminal background check for access to criminal record networks. If this is required, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement. Some positions require overtime during the standard workweek, weekends, and/or holidays; if applicable, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement.
One year of specific experience as a Law Office Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska; OR successful completion of a formal training plan for Law Office Assistant 1-2; OR one year of experience in a law office or equivalent administrative role involving regular use of electronic management information systems and standard software for preparing and processing legal documents.
