Position Summary/Purpose Statement:

The Geary Community Schools Foundation Executive Director shall be the chief operating officer of the not-for-profit corporation and provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and community engagement to advance the mission and priorities of the Foundation. This position is responsible for organizing the activities and affairs of the Foundation to accomplish its operation on sound business principles. This includes managing programs, cultivating donor relationships, administering scholarships and grant funds for local educators and scholarships for students as recommended by the Executive Committee and approved by the Board of Trustees in accord with USD 475, which will provide compensation.

Functions
  • Provide vision, leadership and strategic direction for all Foundation programs and activities
  • Implement policies and priorities established by the Board of Trustees
  • Develop annual goals, objectives and action plans aligned with the Foundation’s mission
  • Prepare and present reports, updates and recommendations to the Board of Trustees as required and in collaboration with the Trustees
  • Lead, motivate, and develop volunteers, fostering positive work relationships
  • Serve as the public face of the organization, build relationships with stakeholders and media and communicate the organization’s mission and impact to the public
  • Ensure the organization adheres to legal and regulatory requirements and implement sound operational and financial policies
Responsibilities:
  • Sets the organization’s strategic direction, articulate its mission and vision and inspire volunteers, and Board of Trustees to achieve goals.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Trustees and financial advisors to manage investment, endowments, and budgets
  • Prepare annual budgets and financial reports for Trustee review and approval
  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies, secure necessary resources, manage the budget, and maintain the organization’s financial health
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of Foundation programs, ensuring they align with the mission and serve the organization effectively
  • Collaborate with USD 475 administration, the JCHS Scholarship and Intern Specialist and other USD 475 staff to build and maintain positive relationships and teamwork for Foundation programs, projects and events.
    • Provide leadership and assist with all projects and events of the Foundation
    • Initiate fundraising, seek funds and grants
    • Promote and market Foundation’s work
  • Oversee Foundation scholarship and grant programs.
  • Collaborate with donors to manage designated student and educator scholarships
    • Lead donor recognition, stewardship, and communication gatherings
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or experience consistent with the job description
  • Experience in non-profit leadership, foundation management or educational administration
  • Working knowledge of USD 475 schools and community
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to education and community involvement
Working Conditions
  • Term of Employment: 9 months/ 189 days
  • Salary Range:
    Commensurate with qualifications and experiences
  • Evaluation Frequency:
    Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of one time per year by the Foundation Board of Trustees.
