Purpose Statement

The job of the Title One Family Support Specialist is to support families of students who are economically disadvantaged and/or academically  Family Support Specialist will assist families in identifying resources and services that may help their children succeed academically and socially, while building relationships with families to help them become more involved in their child's education. The specialist will collaborate with principals of Title 1 Schools to support their family involvement programs.

Essential

Functions
  • Works directly with all of the district’s Title One Schools
  • Identifies families who could benefit from Title 1 services and reaches out to them to explain the program and its benefits.
  • Determines family's needs, challenges, and strengths in order to identify appropriate support services.
  • Provides information and guidance to families on community resources and services that can help address their needs, such as food assistance programs, housing assistance, and healthcare resources.
  • Assists families in understanding the education system and how to navigate it effectively to support their children's academic success.
  • Helps families develop strategies for supporting their child's learning and development at home, including techniques for improving literacy, math, and other academic skills.
  • Facilitates communication between families and school staff, such as teachers, counselors, and administrators, to ensure families are informed about their child's progress and needs.
  • Maintains accurate records of family interactions and progress, and compiles reports to share with school administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicates via e‑mail, calls, etc., to the targeted student and family population.
  • Works with staff to assist students/families in situations where referrals to service agencies are necessary.
  • Develops and implements educational workshops related to family resources and academic/behavioral needs of students.
Other Functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Working Conditions

The Family Support Specialist will work in a school setting and will primarily interact with families during regular school hours. However, some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate families' schedules. The position may involve occasional travel to attend meetings or training sessions.
