Job Summary
Certified Ophthalmology Technician I works under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, assumes responsibility and accountability of performing ophthalmic tests on patients as requested by Ophthalmologist.
Essential Responsibilities- Provides direct and indirect patient care associated with physician office visit.
- Assists provider in the examination and treatment of ophthalmology patients. This assistance includes, but is not limited to, reviewing records and forms, preparing patients for current exam and treatments, preparing appropriate equipment and instruments for surgery and follow-up care, assisting Ophthalmologist by performing technical tests and recording results for procedure analysis and interpretation, and assisting in refractive/diagnostic procedures such as manual manifest refractions, auto-refractometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, keratometry, ocular photography, B‑scan, A‑scan, Retinoscopy, pupillary reflex and ocular motility testing.
- Conducts vision screening tests including visual acuity, color vision, tonometry, visual fields, pupil exams, and other technical tests required by the ophthalmologist. Records data from tests and determines need for further evaluation. Prepares procedure room, assists ophthalmologist with clinical procedures, performs as special assistant using procedures pertaining to all types of ophthalmologic surgeries, prepares patients for and performs general preparation of pre–operative patients, and provides post‑operative instructions as directed by the physician.
- Assists provider in contact lens cleaning, dispensing, insertion/removal, and patient instruction. Prepares and fits patients with special optometric devices as instructed by the provider, instructs patients in correct care, hygiene post procedurally, orders and maintains ophthalmologic medications and supplies, and completes daily, weekly, and monthly medication administration with appropriate competency.
- Participates in quality initiatives for the department.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Basic Life Support required at hire.
- Fully proficient in Goldman Visual Fields, Manual Refractometry, Corneal Topography, Manual Keratometry, Ocular Photography, Retinoscopy, B‑scan, A‑scan and Fluorescein Angiography.
- CAAHEP‑accredited OT program.
- Would travel to Townpark, Gwinnett, Glenlake, Cumberland or Fischer Crossing.
