Position Summary
The Youth Apprenticeship Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, coordinating, and expanding youth apprenticeship opportunities for Clayton County Public Schools students in alignment with district workforce development goals, Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) standards, and local and regional employer needs. This position serves as a critical liaison among students, schools, employers, postsecondary institutions, and community partners to ensure high-quality, equitable, and sustainable apprenticeship pathways that lead to industry credentials, postsecondary attainment, and career placement.
This position reports to the Executive Director, Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education.
- Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, CTAE instructors, and Work-Based Learning (WBL) coordinators to identify and recruit eligible students. Support students through application, onboarding, placement, and completion of apprenticeship experiences. Monitor student progress, attendance, performance, and credential attainment. Address student barriers to participation, including transportation, scheduling, and workplace readiness needs. Create promotional items to communicate with teachers, parents, students, and guidance counselors about programs of study that provide opportunities in WBL and Youth Apprenticeship Program (YAP).
- Design, implement, and scale youth apprenticeship programs aligned to CCPS CTAE pathways and ensure that all youth apprenticeship programs meet GaDOE CTAE requirements, WBL standards, and applicable state and federal guidelines.
- Develop and supervise the completion of assignments and tasks, which includes assisting in the development of the local plan for career and technical education. Serve as liaison among schools, parents, students, the community, business and industry, and post-secondary institutions. Plan and organize in-service activities and professional learning activities that match the identified needs in each program area. Prepare and recommend an operational budget for the program and submit reports and other documents as needed.
- The YAP Specialist brands/markets CTAE programs and recruits sustainable partnerships by creating memorandums of understanding and securing articulation agreements with neighboring Technical Colleges.
- Represent the District regarding school-to-work transition initiatives, policies, and programs. Participate in state/local in-service activities.
- All other duties, as assigned and required, to include budget, professional development, data compilation, and disaggregation. Requires use of state portals and design software.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in counseling, social services, or student personnel services required.
- Makes decisions and recommendations which routinely affect the activities of others.
- Moderate level of judgment required; must evaluate and provide guidance to students and approve general recommendations. Knowledge of McKinney‑Vento regulations and ability to implement compliance requirements.
- Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter‑organizational teams.
- Requires excellent written, verbal and organizational skills.
- Applies, recommends and implements technology concepts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the District. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet research skills required.
