Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The Utilities Mechanic performs tasks to monitor, maintain, and repair structural machinery and systems including those related to boilers and refrigeration under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor and Coordinator. This position may receive guidance from other members of maintenance/engineering, operations, and factory management.
The position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship.
Responsibilities- Perform as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
- Recommend improvements to reduce cost, production downtime and increase efficiency in area of responsibility. Implements improvements as approved.
- Consistently applies effective troubleshooting skills.
- Completes cost‑effective repairs in a timely manner.
- Interprets and understands engineering drawings, manufacturer’s instructions and plant maintenance procedures and specifications.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with fellow team members and other departments.
- Able to use and demonstrate proper care of tools and instruments required in job assignments.
- Ensures that all machinery is in safe working condition; adheres to safety policies and procedures and fosters a safe work environment.
- Adheres to GMP, operational policies and procedures and ensures that contractors working in the area follow the same.
- Adheres to plant attendance policies.
- Completes assigned work orders on a timely basis, including scheduled, emergency and preventive maintenance work orders. Recommends changes to PM program to improve productivity.
- Strives for a low level of downtime on equipment/systems in area of responsibility.
- Solves repetitive problems in area of responsibility with the assistance of others.
- Completes and files the required boiler and refrigeration log sheets and records.
- Completes and files the condenser and boiler water chemistry testing as scheduled, adjusts as directed and completes the log sheets and test results.
- Completes and files all regulatory required documentation for PSM/RMP and other environmental regulations.
- Understands and follows factory management systems for human safety, food safety and/or environmental management. Understands and actively works toward achieving management system targets and objectives.
- Follows factory rules, procedures, and/or practices related to management systems. Reports incidents and unsafe conditions immediately, maintains compliance with regulations, and refers to the appropriate management system on all related procedures and programs.
- All other duties as assigned include both essential and non‑essential job functions.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education required.
- Experience with HVAC, refrigeration systems, boiler‑steam systems and other facilities equipment/systems required.
- General mechanical and troubleshooting skills, good general maintenance knowledge and understanding of facilities and refrigeration equipment and system operation.
- Must have basic electrical skills to include troubleshooting of motors and electrical control circuits on facility and support equipment.
- Must be able to read electrical drawings and schematics for basic electrical circuits.
- Must have general industry knowledge in the following areas: NH3 & CO2 refrigeration systems, boiler steam system, water systems, fire systems, HVAC, wastewater, buildings & grounds and related facilities equipment/systems.
- Has knowledge of the Arkansas High‑Pressure Boiler Operator regulations and works within those regulations.
- Has knowledge of PSM/RMP manuals, the PHAs for NH3 and CO2, and the Spill Prevention Plans and works within those regulatory requirements.
