JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Education:
  Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Medical Technology program and fulfill Federal Register section 493.1423 personnel requirements of a high school diploma or equivalency.
• Experience:
  Completion of clinical rotations in Chemistry, Hematology, or Urinalysis is preferred.
• Physical:
  Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Exposure to biological and mechanical hazards. Operates lab analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, lab refrigerators and freezers, alarm systems, incubators, rotators, water baths, safety hoods, incinerators, PCs, computer terminals, printers, telephones. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional sitting and bending. Lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs.

JOB SUMMARY

The medical technologist student will perform moderately complex testing or waived testing under the authorization of the laboratory medical director. Responsibilities include pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing, such as proper patient identification, specimen collection, handling, performance, and reporting of test results. Also includes maintenance, troubleshooting, understanding reagent stability and storage, recognizing factors influencing testing results, verifying test validity through quality control, and documenting all activities related to patient testing, maintenance, and corrective actions.
