Position OverviewUnder the direction and supervision of the program director, the Behavioral Support Worker will provide in‑home interventions designed to stabilize youth and empower caregivers. The worker will support youth in developing social and daily living skills, managing behaviors, and improving overall emotional regulation. By coaching and educating both youth and their caregivers on de‑escalation techniques, social‑emotional learning, and typical child development, the worker will assist in practicing skills, serve as a role‑play partner, and highlight the youth’s strengths to ensure they gain confidence and competence in their interactions.
EssentialFunctions
- Assisting the youth with developing positive social skills with other children and adults
- Assisting the youth with building positive, healthy relationships
- Providing the youth with positive reinforcement to build confidence
- Providing services face to face, via phone, office, home, or community setting
- Providing support and psychoeducation for parents/caregivers
- Educating, modeling, and motivating the youth to increase their involvement with others in their community
- Focusing on a strengths‑based approach
- Identifying and providing information about the child’s needs and strengths
- Identification and building of natural supports
- Setting goals, designing and implementing and evaluating outcomes of programs
- Supports the youth and family during times of crisis
- Works closely with a multidisciplinary team
- Responsible for the timely submission of Medicaid mental health billing
- Participates in weekly team meetings
- Traveling from various locations within the community to provide the family and youth with supports
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and experience with diverse populations
- Strongly self‑motivated
- Strong communication skills
- Teaching skills, non‑judgmental personality, and empathic listening skills
- Ability and knowledge of basic computer programs for service documentation and report writing
- Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
- Operate motor vehicles
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment
- Physical activities that could be used include: driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion.
- High school diploma or GED
- Must have a valid driver’s license in the state of Illinois
