Student Employee, Math Department

Assist the Math Department Secretary with a variety of tasks to promote and enhance student learning. Tasks include keeping classrooms stocked, organizing materials for instructors, and assisting with day-to‑day operations.

Non‑exempt. Minimum pay rate: $15.00 per hour. Position is FWS eligible.

Job Duties And

Key Responsibilities
  • Survey math classrooms on a weekly basis and stock them as needed.
  • Photocopying.
  • Answer multiple phone lines, forward messages.
  • Direct/assist visitors.
  • Proofread exams and other course materials.
  • Distribute mail to approximately 40 professors, adjunct faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain text and supply inventories.
  • Special projects including the I.C.T.M. Regional and JJC Invitational math contests.
  • Distribution of developmental final exams.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours in the fall/spring semester.
  • Maintain GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Typing and proofreading skills.
  • Problem‑solving abilities, discretion, and willingness to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence and emotional intelligence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of MS Office.
  • Self‑starter who can organize daily workload effectively.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.
Physical Demands

Normal office physical demands.

Working Conditions

Duties performed indoors in a typical office environment.

Scheduled Weekly Hours

Up to 20 hours per week during fall and spring semesters. Up to 28 hours per week during summer and holiday breaks with supervisor approval.
