Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, Inc., a leader in advanced defense systems and technology, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Janitor to help maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment at our Johnstown, PA facility. This essential role supports the daily operations of our team by ensuring our work spaces reflect the high standards we uphold in everything we do.
As a Janitor, you'll be responsible for a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks including vacuuming and buffing floors, shampooing carpets, emptying trash receptacles, and replacing liners. Your contribution will help create a welcoming and efficient space for our employees and visitors alike.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
- Clean building floors and stairways by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
- Gather and empty trash and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary.
- Clean and service restrooms with mops and disinfectants. Replenish restroom supplies.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours, turning off lights, and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
- Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Use cleaning solutions to remove stains and clean surfaces. Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures; scrub surfaces clean when necessary.
- Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, mirrors, and fixtures using both step and extension ladders.
- Dust furniture, desks, walls, machines, and equipment.
- Apply wax to coat canteen and hallway floors and buff. ESD flooring must be treated with special, approved wax only.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Outside grounds maintenance as requested.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Identify and report possible repairs.
- Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Shovel snow from sidewalks and sprinkle salt on surface. 18. Basic measures to prevent or control insects/rodents.
- Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment.
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Maintains an inventory of cleaning and toiletry supplies. Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
- Cleans grounds and parking lots of litter, glass, or other debris.
- Replaces light bulbs and fuses as appropriate.
- Clean sinks, countertops, microwaves, and refrigerators in break rooms.
- Handle recycling materials.
- Ensures quality control by inspecting work in progress and upon completion.
- Maintains records as required.
- Other routine maintenance duties as assigned
- Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- One (1) year of experience in the care and cleaning of buildings. Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the janitorial service profession.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules.
- Knowledge of the proper use of chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides.
