Job Description
Location: Johnston, RI
Work Schedule: 100% Onsite (Training: 5 days/week in office; After training: 4 days/week in office)
Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday (40 hours/week)
Pay Rate: $26.38/hr W2
Duration: 3 Months (Possible Extension)
The Commercial Operations Loan Closer plays a critical role on the Business Banking Operations team, ensuring commercial loans—primarily C&I (Commercial & Industrial) financing—are properly closed, documented, and compliant with credit approval policies.
This role focuses heavily on completing pre-closing due diligence, clearing conditions of credit approval, reviewing loan documentation, and booking loans into the loan accounting system. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities- Communicate directly with Relationship Managers on each deal
- Clear conditions of credit approval prior to closing
- Complete pre-closing due diligence to ensure loans are fully cleared to close
- Verify required conditions such as:
- Insurance
- Appraisals
- Environmental reports
- Flood determinations
- Lien positions
- Title work
- Review loan documentation (credit agreements, notes, guarantees, collateral documents)
- Create loan documentation in Laser Pro or review documents prepared externally
- Act as gatekeeper for compliance and reporting requirements
- Book and onboard loans into the loan accounting system, including funding and billing setup
- Reconcile Loan Accounting Recon accounts for assigned loans
- Clear post-closing legal documentation exceptions in accordance with bank policy
- Manage a pipeline of 10–30 active loan transactions at any given time
- Manage closings within established KPIs
- Provide strong customer service while mitigating operational and reputational risk
- 1–3 years of experience in commercial or business lending operations
- Experience clearing loan conditions and reviewing loan documentation
- Knowledge of federal regulations and commercial loan documentation
- Ability to manage moderately complex problems independently
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal partners and third parties
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proven ability to manage a loan pipeline in a deadline-driven environment
- AFS and Laser Pro experience preferred
- Open to candidates with commercial loan operations experience
- Open to mortgage processing backgrounds
- Not seeking mortgage sales backgrounds
- Bachelor’s degree not required
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate’s Degree or higher preferred
