Responsibilities

Kforce's client, a well-established organization is seeking an experienced Contract Accountant in Johnston, RI to support core accounting operations and the month-end close.

Summary:

This is a hands‑on role requiring strong Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) experience and solid accounting fundamentals. The ideal consultant can step in quickly, operate independently, and keep close activities moving with minimal direction. This is a 1‑2‑month contract role with potential for extension for the right individual, particularly to assist with budgeting support and longer‑term system or process initiatives.

• Independently navigate and utilize Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) to perform daily accounting activities
• Accountant will prepare, review, and post journal entries to support the month‑end close process
• Perform account reconciliations, research variances, and resolve discrepancies across balance‑sheet accounts
• Complete bank reconciliations in Great Plains, ensuring accurate GL tie‑outs
• Run close‑related and ad hoc financial reports using GP tools
• Extract financial data from GP into Excel for reconciliations, analysis, and supporting schedules
• Generate trial balances and detailed GL reports by account and period, based on reporting needs
• Apply strong accounting judgment to work through tasks independently without reliance on external research
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate close activities

• Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains); must be able to operate independently
• Strong experience supporting month‑end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting
• Thorough understanding of accounting principles and best practices
• Ability to ask the right clarifying questions and deliver accurate financial outputs

• Experience supporting budget preparation and financial data management
• Interest in longer‑term system or process improvement initiatives

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
