Job Summary

The Heavy Civil Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale civil construction projects, including concrete structures, bridges, piping systems, asphalt paving, grading, and environmental construction. This role requires a deep understanding of heavy civil operations in both public and private markets, with the ability to analyze plans, specifications, and project requirements to deliver precise bids and proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with preconstruction and project teams to fully understand project scope, schedule, and requirements.
  • Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates and quantity take-offs for all aspects of heavy civil work, including:
    • Structural and flatwork concrete
    • Bridge construction
    • Underground piping and utilities
    • Asphalt paving and grading
    • Environmental and site development projects
  • Prepare bid packages, cost breakdowns, and supporting documentation for timely submission.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure scope coverage.
  • Manage change order pricing and assist with project cost control during execution.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project coordination sessions with senior estimators, project managers, and field leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, and progress reports for internal and client review.

Qualifications
  • Experience:

    Minimum 5–7 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction (bridges, concrete, piping, asphalt, grading, environmental).
  • Technical

    Skills:
    • Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HCSS Heavy Bid, Bid2

      Win, or similar).
    • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, civil plans, and specifications.
    • High school diploma required; degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
