Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg Night Shift Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and through advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights.
The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
- Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care in managing a group of patients.
- Educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
- Utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to policy.
- Shares in responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization including staffing and time management.
- Complies with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
- Actively participates in and supports the Nursing Shared Governance Model and contributes to peer review practices.
- Engages in professional development and completes all mandatory education requirements.
- Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.
- Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Nursing (RN) experience of six (6) months to three (3) years is required.
- Current NYS RN License is required.
- BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross) is required.
- Professional certification in a related nursing specialty is preferred.
- Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS) as required by the assigned unit is preferred.
This position involves a 12-hour night shift, working 36 hours per week.
