Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

    Maintain the safety of all systems and processes in the Isando Machine Shop and implement world class safety practices as guided by the Health and Safety department and senior management
  • Compliance:
  • Ensure that the Machine shop complies to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85: 1993)
  • Maintain the integrity of the ISO 9001: 2008 quality assurance system within the Machine shop, including product traceability
  • Technical
  • Implement and improve on world class error proofing and quality control systems to prevent defects from reaching the customer
  • Maintain the Machine shop expense budget, including manning calculations, shift control, over-time control and raw material costs
  • Maintain the Machine shop output through machine utilisation management, production routing and Bill of material control, management of down time, implementation of quick changeover processes etc.
  • Work with the planning department to effectively schedule and manage the capacity of the Machine shop
  • Implement and maintain Make to Stock (MTS) and Make to Order (MTO) pull systems
  • Develop and grow the Machine shop management team to effectively change the plant into a world class operation
  • Manage the technical development of the Machine shop including yield improvements, new parts and material industrialisation
  • Ensure that all material movements are fully posted before the count, system data such as BOMs, routings, and WIP are accurate, and clear cut‑off rules are communicated to prevent uncontrolled transactions, Well‑prepared count sheets, disciplined physical counting of raw materials, consumables, and WIP by stage, followed by immediate reconciliation of variances through root‑cause analysis of issues like incorrect postings, BOM errors, or mismanaged stock, and concludes with accurate variance reporting and corrective actions that strengthen master data, stock controls, and future stocktake processes.
  • Leadership
    Ensure effective leadership across multi-shift teams, maintaining a focus on internal customer delivery

    Manage the technical development of the Machine Shop including yield improvements, new parts and material industrialisation Adherence to all statutory SHE and housekeeping requirements

    Adhere to Duty of Care Policy at all times
  • Job Knowledge/Education and

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (Mechanical/Industrial Engineering)
  • Advantageous Masters in Business Administration (MBA)
  • 5 years managing production processes
  • 2 years Lean production exposure
  • Practical experience working with modernised machine tooling
