The General Manager will be responsible for the strategic leadership and daily oversight of all site activities, specifically integrating mining and leaching plant operations. The primary objective is to drive operational excellence, ensuring maximum production efficiency and financial performance while maintaining world‑class safety and environmental standards. This role requires a seasoned leader capable of managing complex technical units, ensuring compliance with Tanzanian mining laws, and fostering high‑performing teams.
Key Responsibilities Operational Excellence & Strategic Planning- Integrated Management:
Lead and manage all aspects of operations including mining and leaching plant operations, covering production, safety, maintenance, and environmental compliance. - Strategic optimization:
Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize plant efficiency and output. - Process Improvement:
Identify and execute process enhancements to improve resource recovery and operational throughput.
- Preventative Maintenance:
Oversee preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and ensure operational reliability. - Asset Integrity:
Ensure the long‑term reliability of mining fleets and processing equipment through rigorous technical standards.
- Team Mentorship:
Manage and mentor departmental managers, ensuring high‑performing teams across all units. - Local Content Development:
Lead the development and mentorship of Tanzanian nationals in alignment with the Tanzanian Mining (Local Content) Regulations.
- Fiscal Oversight:
Oversee budgeting, cost control, and the financial performance of the plant. - Executive Reporting:
Prepare regular reports for executive leadership detailing mine and plant performance, KPIs, incidents, and strategic recommendations.
- Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure all operations fully comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies, specifically the Tanzanian Mining Act. - Safety Leadership:
Maintain a robust safety culture to ensure zero‑harm operations across all mining and processing activities. - Environmental & Social Responsibility:
Manage environmental compliance and community engagement to maintain the site’s social license to operate within the Tanzanian context.
- Education:
Degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. - Experience:
10–15 years in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior management role overseeing both mining and leaching plant facilities. - Legal Knowledge:
Thorough understanding of the Tanzanian Mining Act and Local Content requirements. - Certifications:
Relevant professional certifications or statutory licenses required by the Mining Commission of Tanzania. - Leadership:
Proven track record of managing diverse, multi‑disciplinary teams in remote environments.
