Project Manager, Operations Manager, Program ​/ Project Manager

Role

Alt Gen is looking for a Project Manager to join a leading renewable energy company. The role will be based in Stellenbosch or Johannesburg.

The Project Manager will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of energy projects, managing projects end-to-end to ensure on‑time delivery, within scope, and within budget. The role involves frequent travel to project sites in Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, Zambia and other countries.

This role requires an individual with proven experience managing PV projects ideally within the renewable energy sector.

• Coordinate internal teams, contractors, and third‑party vendors to ensure flawless project execution
• Deliver projects on time, within scope and budget
• Develop detailed project scopes, objectives, schedules, and resource plans
• Manage changes in project scope, schedule, and cost, escalating issues where required
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, maintaining strong working relationships
• Conduct client‑facing meetings, conference calls, and vendor engagements
• Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks and issues

• Review drawings and specifications to identify design deficiencies or impractical details
• Recommend construction alternatives and best practices where required
• Ensure quality control measures are implemented and maintained throughout the project lifecycle
• Ensure compliance with contractual, HSE, insurance, labour, and regulatory requirements

• Manage project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and cost value reconciliation
• Ensure applications for payment are accurately submitted and payments received timeously
• Manage additional project costs and ensure timely submission and approval
• Oversee subcontract and purchase order requisitions

• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and status reports
• Measure and report on project performance, progress, and financial status
• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
• Organise and minute meetings; prepare presentations and reports
• Maintain accurate project records, timelines, and compliance documentation

• 3-5 years of experience in a Project Management role within the renewable energy sector
• Background in construction of renewable energy projects
• Experience project managing utility scale projects
• Experience with managing contracts eg NEC
• Experience with drafting milestone payment reports
• Comfortable with frequent travel across borders
• Experience with managing construction of utility scale projects
