Legal Associate – South Africa (Fintech)

The Legal Associate will provide practical and commercially focused legal support to a fast-growing fintech business operating in South Africa and across selected African markets. The role supports regulatory compliance, commercial contracting, and product initiatives, ensuring legal and regulatory risks are effectively managed while enabling business growth.
Key Responsibilities- Provide legal advice on South African financial services regulations, including FSCA, FICA, POPIA, NCA, and related fintech frameworks.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements such as technology, vendor, partnership, and customer contracts.
- Support new product development and market initiatives by advising on legal and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with licensing, regulatory engagements, audits, and ongoing compliance obligations.
- Support corporate governance, internal policies, and risk management initiatives.
- Liaise with external counsel and support dispute and claims management where required.
- LLB degree and admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
- 3–4 years post-qualification experience, preferably within financial services, fintech, banking, or technology law.
- Strong working knowledge of South African financial services and data protection laws.
- Proven commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
- An advantage: exposure to or working knowledge of financial services, payments, data protection, and consumer laws across multiple African jurisdictions.
