Position: Senior Legal Bookkeeper (Conveyancing) – CLSLB

Overview

Main job function:
Senior Legal Bookkeeper in conveyancing manages specialized financial records, trust accounts, and compliance for property transfers, often requiring 10+ years of experience in legal environments. Key responsibilities include trust reconciliations, SARS compliance, and processing payments for conveyancing matters.

Responsibilities and Skills
  • Trust and Business Accounts:
    Full bookkeeping for trust and business accounts, ensuring strict adherence to legal compliance.
  • Conveyancing Focus:
    Handling trust investments, specifically in accordance with regulations like Section 86(4).
  • Reconciliations & Reporting:
    Maintaining accurate financial records up to balance sheet level, managing creditors, and performing monthly reconciliations.
  • Compliance:
    Ensuring all transactions comply with SARS regulations and legal industry standards.
  • Experience:

    Often 10+ years within a law firm, specifically in conveyancing, is required.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficiency in legal accounting software (e.g., Lexis Nexis, Ghost Convey).
  • Education:

    A BCom degree with a major in Accounting/Finance is often preferred, but extensive experience is highly valued.
  • Soft Skills:

    High attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently.
Qualifications

Very proficient at using Excel to compile and provide various reports; must have experience with ghost practice and a law firm in the past that dealt with conveyancing.

Criteria

Conveyancing payments (the biggest part of our practice) are quite specific and therefore experience in this field is crucial. The person must be able to deal with all aspects of bookkeeping themselves and must be willing to act as our FICA compliance officer.

Remuneration

R40-R50k
