The Underwriting Administrator is responsible for assisting in the assessment, evaluation, and processing of insurance applications in accordance with underwriting guidelines and risk assessment policies. The role involves analysing client information, supporting senior underwriters, and ensuring efficient underwriting processes.
Key tasks & Accountabilities- Assist in assessing risks and determining appropriate coverage, terms, and premiums.
- Review and analyse application documents, including financial statements, policy history, and risk factors.
- Ensure underwriting decisions align with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Process new business, renewals, and endorsements efficiently.
- Prepare underwriting reports and maintain accurate records of all underwriting decisions.
- Communicate underwriting decisions to brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Support in conducting risk assessments and recommending suitable coverage.
- Ensure compliance with internal underwriting guidelines and external regulatory frameworks.
- Identify potential risk exposures and propose mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with brokers, agents, and clients to gather additional information as needed.
- Provide technical underwriting support to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Assist in resolving underwriting queries and policy-related concerns.
- Stay updated on industry trends, market developments, and underwriting best practices.
- Participate in training programs and professional development initiatives.
- Understanding the business end to end
- Getting exposure to other departments in the business
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance, Information Science, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification (or working towards one) in insurance (e.g., CII, AIISA) is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
- Understanding of underwriting principles and risk assessment.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in insurance software and Microsoft Office applications especially excel.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong ethical standards and attention to compliance requirements.
- Accuracy and efficiency in processing underwriting applications.
- Turnaround time for underwriting decisions.
- Compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Quality of risk assessments and recommendations.
- Customer and broker satisfaction levels.
