Payroll Officer

Location: Remote (Must be based in Johannesburg/Pretoria)

About the Role

The Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely end-to-end processing of payroll for a portfolio of low to medium-risk clients. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organisation, and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-end payroll processing, including gross-to-net calculations, onboarding, terminations, bonuses, overtime, and deductions
• Ensure compliance with country-specific statutory requirements, including tax filings and returns
• Administer employee benefits and load salary and benefit payments accurately and timeously
• Maintain accurate payroll records in line with audit and data privacy requirements
• Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and year-end submissions
• Manage client communication and resolve payroll queries and discrepancies
• Use payroll systems and company tools (e.g. ZOHO, O365) efficiently
• Assist with audits, process improvements, and ongoing training

Requirements

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 3+ years’ payroll administration experience, preferably across multiple payrolls
• Advanced Excel and payroll software proficiency
• Strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and confidentiality
• Excellent time management, communication skills, and ability to work under pressure
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
