Overview

- To influence, challenge, and shape investment thinking within the business and industry.
- To manage the Investment Actuarial function within the Investment Consulting team.
- To assist in the development of junior staff
Asset-Liability Modelling:
- Develop client strategies for Asset-Liability modelling exercises.
- End-to-end project management for Asset-Liability modelling exercises.
- Reviewing Asset-Liability modelling exercises for retirement fund clients (both DB and DC funds), insurance companies, and trusts.
- Interaction with the actuary/valuator, investment consultant, investment manager(s), and administrator appointed to the fund/company.
- Using software packages and internal models to project future asset class return scenarios and optimise strategic asset allocations.
- Project assets, liabilities, and funding levels into the future for defined benefit funds.
- Project net replacement ratios for members of defined contribution funds.
- Present modelling results to clients.
- Develop client strategies for Asset-Liability modelling exercises.

- Determine style signatures of different investment managers based on different metrics.
- Use style analytics tool to determine a manager's style signature relative to a pre-determined benchmark.
- Review reports for consultants and clients.
- Develop knowledge of investment concepts and matters.
- Keep abreast of changes in the investment industry and other regulations (retirement funds, insurance etc.).
- Conduct technical research on topical investment issues.
- Contributing to research papers and articles.
- Attend asset manager presentations and actuarial conventions/seminars and provide feedback to the team.
- Provide technical investment support to the team and the business.
- Perform detailed portfolio analysis on historical performance.
- Compare performance and risk characteristics of portfolios.
- Attending conferences/conventions and providing feedback to business on events attended.
- Successful time management and delegation.
- To represent AF Investments at internal group-wide committees such as AF Investment Consulting Committee (AFICC), Actuarial Standards Committee (ASC), Actuarial Professionalism Committee (APC), Actuarial Indaba etc. and Investment Actuarial within the Investment Consulting Manco
- To represent AF Investments at external committees e.g. ASSA, ABSIP, ASISA etc.
