Overview

The IFRS Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation, interpretation, and application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) across the organisation. This role ensures compliance with relevant accounting principles, provides technical accounting support, and offers strategic advice to enhance financial reporting accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in IFRS and will work closely with internal finance teams, auditors, and senior management to provide accounting solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure full compliance with IFRS accounting standards and stay updated on new pronouncements and amendments.
  • Provide guidance on complex accounting issues and their impact on financial statements.
  • Lead the adoption of new or revised IFRS standards, advising on appropriate implementation strategies.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements in line with IFRS.
  • Ensure the accurate reflection of IFRS in external financial reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and transparency.
  • Assist in the analysis and review of financial data to ensure compliance with IFRS reporting requirements.
Technical Accounting Advisory
  • Provide technical accounting support to the finance team, addressing complex financial reporting issues.
  • Advise on the accounting implications of new transactions, including M&A, investments, and restructuring activities.
  • Offer technical guidance on accounting policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with best practices.
Stakeholder Management
  • Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and key stakeholders on technical accounting matters.
  • Assist senior management in understanding the financial implications of IFRS on the business and operational decisions.
  • Serve as the internal point of contact for all IFRS-related inquiries.
Training & Development
  • Lead and manage 8 – 10 reportees in various roles.
  • Develop and deliver IFRS-related training sessions for finance teams and other relevant departments.
  • Build awareness within the organisation of changes in IFRS and their potential impacts on business operations.
  • Lead initiatives to improve technical knowledge and application of IFRS across the organisation.
Policy Development
  • Update and maintain the company’s accounting policies in line with IFRS requirements.
  • Implement controls and processes to ensure compliance with all IFRS-related policies and reporting requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education
    :
    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field;
    Chartered Accountant CA(SA) is essential.
  • Experience
    :
    Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial reporting or accounting roles, with significant exposure to IFRS technical accounting.
  • Industry Knowledge
    :
    Experience in public accounting or corporate accounting within a multinational environment is preferred.
  • Technical Skills
    :
  • Strong technical knowledge and application of IFRS and OHADA.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting systems and accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to analyse complex financial data.
  • Attention to Detail
    :
    High accuracy in financial reporting and technical accounting documentation.
  • Problem-Solving
    :
    Ability to address and resolve complex accounting issues with innovative solutions.
  • Communication Skills
    :
    Strong verbal and written communication, capable of conveying complex IFRS concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Leadership
    :
    Strong leadership skills to mentor teams and drive organisational compliance with IFRS standards.
  • Project Management
    :
    Ability to lead projects, such as the implementation of new IFRS standards, with efficiency and minimal disruption to business operations.
