Job Summary:

Eosol Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Substation and Line Technician to join our dynamic team in Johannesburg. This role is crucial for the successful preparation and presentation of tender offers, involving detailed quotation requests from suppliers, thorough evaluation of bids, and the development of conceptual pre-designs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of electrical substations and power line infrastructure, coupled with excellent analytical and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Tender Preparation: Lead and contribute to the preparation of comprehensive tender documents for substation and line projects. This includes understanding project requirements, scope of work, and technical specifications.
  • Supplier Quotation Management: Proactively identify and engage with potential suppliers to request detailed quotations for materials, equipment, and services related to substations and power lines. This involves preparing clear and concise requests for proposals (RFPs).
  • Bid Evaluation: Conduct detailed technical and commercial evaluations of supplier quotations and bids received. Analyze pricing, delivery schedules, technical compliance, and supplier capabilities to recommend the most suitable options.
  • Conceptual Pre-Designs: Develop conceptual pre-designs and preliminary layouts for substations and associated power line routes. This may involve using specialized software and applying sound engineering principles.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports, ensuring compliance with industry standards and Eosol Group's quality requirements.
  • Cost Estimation: Support the cost estimation process by providing accurate data on materials, equipment, and labor based on evaluated quotations and pre-designs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineering teams, procurement specialists, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of substation and line components into overall project plans.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential technical risks and challenges associated with substation and line designs and supplier proposals, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements, market trends, and best practices in substation and line engineering, as well as emerging suppliers and solutions.
  • Site Visits (as required): Participate in site visits for project assessment, supplier evaluation, or technical verification purposes.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in substation and/or overhead/underground line projects.
  • Proven experience in preparing technical specifications and requests for quotations.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate supplier bids and proposals, both technically and commercially.
  • Familiarity with conceptual design development for electrical infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles related to power systems, substations, and transmission/distribution lines.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and construction drawings.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with internal teams and external suppliers.
