Introduction
This opportunity is with a well-established organization operating in the renewable energy sector, involved in the delivery of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage projects across South Africa and the broader African region. The business is known for its strong technical capability, structured project execution, and commitment to local compliance and market development.
Duties & Responsibilities- Take full responsibility for end-to-end cost management of PV and energy storage projects, including cost estimating, budgeting, tender pricing, and final accounts
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and develop accurate cost models in line with South African standards and local market conditions
- Conduct detailed market research on local labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractor pricing
- Manage cost estimation, pricing strategies, and internal cost reviews during tendering phases
- Coordinate and engage in cost discussions and pricing evaluations with local subcontractors and suppliers
- Support project teams with cost control, variation assessments, and settlement management throughout project execution
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Cost Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in cost management within renewable energy, power, or infrastructure projects
- Proven experience working on large-scale projects within South Africa or the broader African market
- Strong knowledge of South African measurement and pricing systems, including BOQs and rate-based pricing
- Experience working with Chinese enterprises or supporting projects linked to Chinese investors or contractors
- Fluent in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with local consultants and subcontractors
- Good understanding of South Africa’s B-BBEE framework, local procurement requirements, and labour legislation
- Holder of a South African or industry-recognised professional certification (or equivalent)
Advantageous
- Experience in PV, energy storage, substations, or transmission-related projects
- Exposure to Eskom, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), or municipal projects
- Valid South African work permit
- Master’s degree or higher
- Chinese background preferred
