Hours of Work:
Mon.

-Fri. 3:00PM - 11:00PM (Some weekends/holidays will be required)

Compensation:
Public Sector benefits, including enrollment in the NJ State Health Benefits Program and Pension system; paid holidays, paid vacation, personal leave, and sick leave.

Under the administrative supervision of the Deputy Executive Director, and the direct supervision of the Director of Skilled Trades Services, this position assumes responsibility for performing a variety of facility equipment maintenance tasks, including mechanical repairs, installations, inspections, and servicing of machinery, as required. Candidates with familiarity with Steamfitter and Pipefitter functions and responsibilities will be given strong consideration, although prior experience is not mandatory.

essential responsibilities:

Ø Installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and fixtures, including but not limited to: hot water tanks, heating systems, make-up tanks, shower diverters, drains, etc.

Ø Installation of new pipes, replacement of pipe sections, valve replacements, spigots, ferncos, ball valves, etc.

Ø Possesses extensive knowledge of plumbing tools and materials such as pipe wrenches, channel locks, cutters, pipe threaders, pipe taps, levels, power tools, PVC, copper, cast iron, lead pipe, etc.

Ø Fitting and repair of various household plumbing components.

Ø Cutting, soldering, and assembling pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures.

Ø Familiarity with press tools (propress) and fittings for water, steam, and gas systems.

Ø Inspection and testing of plumbing systems for safety, functionality, and compliance with codes.

Ø Troubleshooting and resolution of plumbing issues as required.

Ø Clearing stoppages and backups using various drain cleaner machines (motorized snakes).

Ø Knowledge of various tools and equipment for sewer cleaning.

Ø Replacement of pumps, as necessary.

Ø Thorough cleanup of all debris post-completion of work, whether in vacant, occupied, basement, or common areas.

Ø Duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience/License:

High school diploma or General Equivalent Diploma (GED) supplemented by three (3) years' experience in work involving the installation, inspection, repair, servicing and maintenance of mechanical equipment, machinery and circuits or a combination of training and experience is required. Must possess a valid State of New Jersey Driver's license.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Ø Knowledge of the problems, equipment and techniques involved in installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining motors, pumps, boilers, and hot water heaters.

Ø Extensive knowledge of equipment and machinery, underground steam & hot water systems.

Ø Efficient time management skills

Ø Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and diagrams.

Ø Ability to install, inspect, repair, and maintain wiring of motors, pumps, oil burners.

Ø Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions; to take needed safety precautions in performing the work; to obtain, store, safeguard and properly use needed equipment, materials, and supplies, and maintain simple records.

Ø Ability to observe the required safety precautions.

Ø Ability to keep simple records of work done, materials used, and time spent.

Ø Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
