Systems Engineer, Cloud Computing
Step into a leadership role where your expertise shapes the future of cloud observability.
Job SummaryAs a Principal Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase in the Chief Technology Office for the Enterprise Observability Technology team, you will be responsible for the design and delivery of observability tools for public cloud platforms. You'll partner with teams to create cohesive solutions, manage other engineers, and ensure our products meet the highest standards. Your leadership will help technologists across the firm gain deep insights into their applications.
We foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive team culture.
We are building the strategic observability platform for one of the worlds largest and most complex financial institutions - re-engineering how telemetry and operational insights work at enterprise scale on public cloud. This is a rare opportunity to shape a firm-wide capability from an architectural and engineering perspective, influencing standards and vendor integrations that will be adopted globally. If you are motivated by designing robust, scalable cloud-native platforms - not running incident bridges - this role offers genuine scale, complexity and technical ownership.
Job Responsibilities- Drive Innovation: Engineer robust, scalable solutions for the public cloud, expanding your expertise across major platforms-starting with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- E mpower Engineers: Shape tools that directly impact our engineering community, ensuring they are intuitive, effective, and tailored to real‑world needs.
- Strategic Advisor: Guide cross‑functional teams with deep technical insight, helping them navigate complex challenges and deliver best‑in‑class solutions.
- Collaborative Partner: Work closely with diverse teams to create integrated, seamless experiences that delight our customers and elevate our technology ecosystem.
- Architectural Leadership: Lead the creation of architecture and design artifacts for sophisticated applications, ensuring that software development aligns with strategic design principles.
- Mentor and Inspire: Foster excellence by mentoring fellow engineers, promoting best practices, and cultivating a culture of disciplined, high‑quality code.
- Influence and Impact: Engage with leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology, shaping decisions that drive the firm forward.
- Community Contributor: Participate in engineering communities of practice and events, exploring and championing new and emerging technologies.
- Culture Champion: Advocate for and embody the firm's values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect, helping to build a welcoming and supportive workplace.
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Solid understanding of public cloud fundamentals (compute, networking, storage, security, deployment) on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Extensive hands‑on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Proven leadership in teams focused on quality SDLC, peer review, testing, and automated cloud deployment.
- Proficient in coding, preferably in Go or Java.
- Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to senior leaders and executives.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for engaging stakeholders.
- Enjoys presenting technical designs to engineering audiences.
- Commitment to continuous learning and exploring new technologies.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform fundamentals including compute, networking, storage, and security policies and services for monitoring, auditing, tracing, and access management.
- Exposure to cloud automation technologies such as Terraform.
- Proficiency in deploying, managing, and troubleshooting containerized applications using Kubernetes.
- Experience with observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Splunk, and Grafana.
- Understanding and experience with Open Telemetry (OTel) standards and tools.
- Ability to build secure applications and remediate vulnerabilities using modern techniques.
