RoleSummary
Vice President, Data Governance – enterprise leader responsible for defining and executing the firmwide data governance strategy, establishing policies, and embedding best practices across the organization. This role oversees governance initiatives across multiple business domains, ensuring data is trusted, compliant, discoverable, and aligned with business strategy. The VP will lead a team of governance professionals and report to the Managing Director, Head of Data and Analytics.
The position is based in our Jersey City, NJ office on a hybrid basis.
- Define and execute the enterprise‑wide data governance strategy and operating model.
- Establish and enforce policies, standards, and frameworks for data quality, stewardship, metadata, access, and classification.
- Lead enterprise data governance councils and working groups, driving decision‑making across business functions.
- Represent data governance in executive forums, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and priorities.
- Oversee the rollout, adoption, and scaling of metadata management, lineage, and cataloging platforms.
- Define and execute enterprise strategy for a unified ontology or governed data model, master data management, and reference data management.
- Drive enterprise programs for data quality monitoring, remediation, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective collaboration with legal, compliance, risk, audit, and IT security to meet regulatory and policy requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX).
- Monitor and report on governance KPIs, dashboards, and metrics, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Partner with data engineering, platform, analytics, and science leaders to embed governance controls into data pipelines and applications.
- Lead enterprise data literacy programs and steward a culture of responsible, value‑driven data usage.
- Mentor and develop a team of governance professionals, fostering professional growth and succession readiness.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging governance technologies and methodologies to strengthen enterprise capabilities.
- Partner with data engineering, platform, analytics, and science leaders to embed governance controls into data pipelines and applications.
- Lead enterprise data literacy programs and steward a culture of responsible, value‑driven data usage.
- Mentor and develop a team of governance professionals, fostering professional growth and succession readiness.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging governance technologies and methodologies to strengthen enterprise capabilities.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Information Management, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
- 12+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or information strategy, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven success in implementing enterprise‑scale data governance frameworks (DAMA, DCAM, EDM Council, etc.).
- Deep expertise in metadata management, data cataloging, lineage, and data quality platforms (e.g., Collibra, Alation).
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks for data (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX, financial regulations).
- Executive presence and ability to influence across executive committee, business leaders, and technology stakeholders.
- Experience leading cross‑functional teams and governance councils in a large, complex organization.
- Domain knowledge of insurance, reinsurance, or financial services required.
