Position: Senior Probation Officer (Gun Violence Prevention Specialist)

SALARY: The salary range for this position is $64,317.50 to $ for Schedule A, and $64,317.50 to $ for Schedule

B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to October 31, 2015, are considered Schedule

A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after October 31, 2015, are considered Schedule

REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Responsibilities
  • Identifies appropriate probation cases for referral to the Advisory Board.
  • Assess client’s needs, supervision strategies, and gaps in services and presents a summary of same in a clear and concise manner for consideration by the Advisory Board. Provides updates to the Advisory Board as needed.
  • Supervise high-risk specialized clients with underlying firearms, weapons, or violent assault offenses.
  • Vetting of community resources, services, and interventions suggested by the Advisory Board to ensure adherence to evidence-based practices to include meeting with program directors and observing various program components. Maintain data specific to these clients and programs.
  • Links these clients to services and interventions as recommended by the Advisory Board; ensures client’s engagement.
  • Possesses specialized knowledge in the area of gun violence and the ability to evaluate/problem-solve barriers to the client’s successful completion of services and probation using cognitive behavioral techniques and the Structured Response Grid.
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with community resources and services including developing relationships with grass‑root community organizations.

Eligibility for Advancement

Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Senior Probation Officer as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement to the Senior Probation Officer title are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination.

Education

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any area, which includes or is supplemented by 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences and two years of professional experience in interviewing clients and/or casework involving gathering and analyzing socioeconomic…
