POSITION SUMMARY:

The Electrical Instrumentation Technician plays a critical role in supporting the operations of our ice cream and powder blending facility. This skilled professional possesses comprehensive knowledge of all blending, mixing, and packaging lines, as well as refrigeration and process systems. They excel in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and instrumentation systems across the plant, ensuring smooth and efficient production. Responsibilities include completing work orders promptly, performing preventative maintenance, and optimizing automated systems for consistent product quality.

Proficiency in ladder logic troubleshooting and PLC programming enhances their ability to support production teams. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as the technician will make informed decisions regarding plant electrical and instrumentation systems with confidence and minimal supervision. Their expertise directly contributes to the success of our manufacturing operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee daily automation activities for ice cream and powder blending processes.
  • Install, test, and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems for blending, mixing, refrigeration, and packaging equipment.
  • Perform inspections, calibrations, and modifications on automation equipment and process controls.
  • Make program changes to improve efficiency in blending and freezing operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system faults, including refrigeration controls and blending line anomalies.
  • Provide technical assistance to production personnel for automation and troubleshooting.
  • Calibrate flow meters, temperature sensors, pressure gauges, and other instruments critical to dairy and powder processes.
  • Conduct daily preventive maintenance on electrical systems and refrigeration controls.
  • Bend and install electrical conduit per local and national codes.
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits, motors, VFDs, and servo systems used in blending and packaging lines.
  • Monitor controls and electrical equipment to ensure reliable service and compliance with food safety standards.
  • Ensure Preventive Maintenance procedures align with SOPs and SSOPs.
  • Maintain organized work areas and collaborate with Maintenance teams on repairs and projects. Support safety programs and encourage teamwork across departments.
  • Participate in standby assignments and respond to off-hours or emergency calls as needed.
  • Comply with all Quality Assurance and Food Safety policies; report any potential issues immediately.
POSITION SPECIFICATION/

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
  • Idaho State Electrical Journeyman’s License.
  • Associate of Applied Science, Instrumentation and Controls or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or two or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
  • Minimum one-year Instrumentation experience.
  • Dairy or food processing plant experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with HMI development and PLC programming.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, RS Logix 500/5000, Wonderware, and Outlook.
  • Ability to calibrate and troubleshoot instruments for blending, freezing, and powder handling systems.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, multitasking ability, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and process diagrams.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Highly organized with adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial 480V equipment, motor control centers, VFDs, and distribution systems.
