Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to support process and packaging equipment projects from concept through installation and startup. This role is responsible for investigating, specifying, and implementing new and used equipment, with a strong emphasis on mechanical systems. The Engineer will manage projects across departmental lines, create detailed drawings and project plans, coordinate contractors, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsibilities
  • Design, plan, and execute mechanical and process-related capital projects, including tanks, pumps, piping, compressed air, water delivery, filtration, conveying, and chemical reaction systems
  • Utilize CAD software to create mechanical, electrical, piping, and equipment drawings, layouts, and assemblies
  • Develop project schedules, budgets, BOMs, equipment lists, and fixed capital job estimates, including competitive contractor bids
  • Act as liaison between Engineering, Plant Management, Safety, and external contractors
  • Coordinate and monitor contractor work, including schedules, labor hours, materials used, and safety compliance
  • Order materials, track deliveries, and expedite as needed
  • Research and source appropriate equipment and materials to meet project requirements
  • Support equipment installation, startup, testing, and commissioning
  • Create or assist in developing SOPs and Work Instructions for new equipment installations
  • Maintain project documentation, drawings, time sheets, and equipment records
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, including Safety, GMP, SQF, Food Safety, Security, and Environmental standards
  • Uphold company core values and support continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • • Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering and project experience
  • Technical Skills

    • Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems and construction practices
  • • Proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar CAD systems)
  • • Ability to read and produce mechanical and equipment drawings
  • • Ability to read and understand basic electrical drawings (single- and three-phase motors and switches)
  • • Computer proficiency including Windows, Word, and Excel (SAP experience a plus)
Additional Skills
  • Practical knowledge of laboratory instruments and techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

Work Environment Requirements
  • • Ability to work in manufacturing and process environments
  • • Occasional exposure to airborne contaminants; respiratory protection may be required
  • • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work on metal grating as needed
  • • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs continuously
  • • Visual acuity required for detailed technical work and facility observations
