Assistant Manager

Drive sales, services and customer engagement in the store and ensure the store is ready for business. You and your team will establish customer relationships that build loyalty, provide total solutions to meet customers’ needs and grow the business.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strong leadership in community, customer service, sales, and team development.
  • Ensure that the store culture embodies Staples values and its commitment to the community.
  • Develop a high‑performing team focused on providing an exceptional store experience, consultative selling, driving conversions and providing total solutions to every customer.
  • Coach, train and role‑play to deliver results.
  • Achieve sales and services goals, profit margin and execution of store operations.
  • Establish business cadence for sales readiness.
  • Provide direction daily for merchandising opportunities within the store.
  • Delegate operational tasks in partnership with the GM.
  • Manage total store operations and cost control, acting as the Floor Leader.
  • Champion company initiatives, being adaptable and flexible to change and responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years managing a sales team in a retail or services industry.
  • Experience managing and coaching a team in a customer‑centric, solutions‑based environment.
  • Strong communication, organization, planning and adaptability to changing business priorities.
  • Review results against business goals and deliver plans for growth and improvement.
  • Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Work cooperatively in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to lift/move materials in the 10-50 pound range, climb ladders, stand and walk continuously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using financial metrics to track sales progress to drive profitable sales and margins.
  • Ability to network and engage with the community.
