Research Assistant

Purpose

To provide support in conducting research activities that advance the goals and objectives of a recently awarded 1890 Capacity Building Grant. This role will assist in gathering, analyzing, and organizing data; preparing reports and documentation; supporting project implementation; and contributing to the development of strategies that strengthen institutional capacity. The position will play an important part in ensuring that grant‑funded initiatives are carried out effectively, meet compliance requirements, and produce meaningful outcomes for the university and its stakeholders.

• Implement experiments as directed to achieve the goals of the project.
• Present the scientific findings to academia and industry.
• Educate the public and stakeholders.

• Knowledge and skills in molecular biology.
• Ability to perform research independently.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• A bachelor's or master's degree in microbiology or a related area is required.
• Experience in microbiology is required.
• Experience in plant pathology is a plus.

• Experience in molecular biology and bioinformatics is preferred.

• Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
• Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed into account.
• Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
• Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools.
• Normal dexterity of hands and fingers.
• Normal coordination, including eye‑hand, hand‑foot.
• Normal endurance.

This position is renewable yearly, depending on the availability of funding and the incumbent's performance.
