QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN (3rd Shift)

The Quality Control Technician position is an 8-hour shift Monday through Friday (10:30 pm‑6:30 am) working in our state of the art, climate‑controlled facility, with the opportunity for voluntary overtime and, at times, may require overtime beyond the normal workday. As a Quality Control Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Morris Packaging’s and customers’ quality standards, following quality control best practices, providing guidance, adhering to quality control policies, actively participating in resolving production and customer issues, and offering support to all areas of production safely, efficiently and accurately.
Morris Packaging provides on‑site training and certification to support your success.
- Monitor product quality of each department. Ensure deficiencies are caught and corrected.
- Report quality deficiencies and communicate them to operators, department & shift leads, shift supervisors and other quality control technicians.
- Flag, document and quarantine defective material, moving defective products to the designated area and ensuring all nonconforming material is tracked to the origination point of defect and recorded.
- Take direction and follow the shift supervisor and/or shift lead requests.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and always work safely.
- Responsible for banding materials to pallet to ensure safety when moved.
- Run laboratory equipment as needed for testing (computers, COF tester, micrometer, gloss meter, tear tester and all other in‑house quality control equipment).
- Maintain positive working relationships with team members, production staff and visiting customers and suppliers.
- Conduct department cleaning procedures.
- Support training of quality control technicians.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to read standard measuring tape (imperial or metric).
- Ability to maintain, understand and follow quality, safety and SQF standards, policies and procedures.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to communicate clearly with team members and production staff.
- Ability to differentiate between colors.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to receive, track and distribute materials, supplies and equipment.
- Ability to complete routine quality paperwork.
- Ability to read, sort, check, count and verify numbers.
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily in our climate‑controlled facility. The plant floor is subject to vibration and equipment noise, leading to a loud environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and might also be exposed to outside conditions, tight spaces, cleaning solvents and heights. There is a moderate to high demand for tight deadlines.
This position will experience moderate interruption in workflow, starting and stopping for product changeovers.
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen, see color variance between products, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, stand for extended periods of time and walk extended distances.
- Continuous (6+ hours per day) working at a computer terminal.
- Continuous (6+ hours per day) standing and walking.
- Continuous (6+ hours per day) talking, teaching and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement.
- Intermittent (1–2 hours per day) bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, and grasping.
- Ability to move and lift objects, frequently 20–75 lb.
- Ability to use lifting equipment.
- Good eyesight, normal hearing.
This is a full‑time position. Days, nights and hours may vary depending on assigned shift and production requirements. The position may require significant work hours beyond the normal workday based on the demands of the business cycle or customer volume of business.
