This position will be located at the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Environmental Services Program (ESP) at 2710 W Main St, Jefferson City, MO
. This position requires intermittent overnight stays and/or extended workdays.

Responsibilities
  • This position is responsible for promoting a safety culture throughout the DEQ and the department through consulting in the areas of occupational health and safety, Workers’ Compensation loss prevention, and administration of occupational health and safety related programs.
  • Provides safety-related training; performs professional work in anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling safety and/or health hazards associated with specific job duties, substances, or industrial processes to ensure employees are provided safe and healthful workplaces.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of medical information and travels around the state on an intermittent basis as needed.
  • Manage the department’s medical monitoring program for approximately 135 department staff.
  • Perform safety inspections in DEQ facilities and follow up with inspection reports.
  • Develop and coordinate trainings such as:
    First Aid/CPR/AED, wilderness first aid, safety refreshers for HAZWOPER certifications, forklift usage, load securement, etc.
  • Oversee the division’s AED program; ensuring devices are regularly checked, batteries replaced as needed, and information downloaded and provided to the department’s medical monitoring staff after usage.
  • Investigate accidents involving department staff and/or property, including workers’ compensation accidents and reporting.
  • Manage department’s fit testing program: maintenance, certification, and care of the department-owned fit testing equipment; perform annual respiratory fit testing for employees required to wear respirators.
  • Serve on various department health and safety committees, including the department’s Risk Management Committee, and provide backup and support for other divisions as needed.
  • Provide technical advice and consultation in development and maintenance of the department’s health and safety related policies.
  • Maintain a state purchasing card for use in paying for medical monitoring expenses, procuring health and safety related supplies, and training materials.
Qualifications

As a lead trainer for several health and safety courses, this position will be required to obtain and maintain the appropriate teaching certifications for such courses. If you do not currently possess these certifications, you will be given six months to obtain necessary certifications (flexibility will be allowed due to course availability and scheduling). Ability to travel, operate a motor vehicle, and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
