The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking attorneys for legal counsel positions in Jefferson City, Missouri. Department Legal Counsels perform a variety of services, including providing legal advice and assistance on correctional issues such as inmate rights, conditions of confinement, and probation, parole and sentencing issues; representing department officials at administrative and court hearings; and liaising with the Attorney General’s Office on department litigation.

Attorneys for the department also draft and review contracts, legislative bills, procedures, and administrative rules.

• Provide legal advice and assistance on correctional issues such as inmate rights, conditions of confinement, and probation, parole and sentencing issues.
• Represent department officials at administrative and court hearings.
• Liaise with the Attorney General’s Office on department litigation.
• Draft and review contracts, legislative bills, procedures, and administrative rules.
• Collaborate with department colleagues to support the mission to improve lives and enhance community safety.

Attorney positions will stay opened until filled.

The ideal candidate will be a member in good standing of the Missouri Bar with excellent communication skills who possesses initiative, independence, and the ability to apply knowledge in a professional and timely manner to implement the department’s mission to improve live and make Missouri communities safer. Three or more years of legal experience is preferred, but not required.
