The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years‑of‑service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed the salary range listed above.
This position will be located at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building at 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
Responsibilities- Review applications for and draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) operating permits for domestic wastewater treatment facilities.
- Gain a general working knowledge of various wastewater treatment technologies, nomenclature, and expected performance capabilities.
- Correspond with permit tees, consultants, stakeholders, or other interested persons regarding permit requirements.
- Become proficient with and implement applicable state statutes as well as state and federal regulations regarding the NPDES permit requirements and processes.
- Attend trainings and conferences to maintain technical understanding of the NPDES program, including the various wastewater treatment technologies utilized around the state of Missouri.
- Attend, in coordination with regional office team members, occasional field/site visits when necessary to gain a better understanding of a specific treatment technology.
- Provide exceptional customer service by responding timely and professionally to inquiries from other department team members, permit tees, consultants, and the general public.
- Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on gained knowledge of treatment technology, operations, state and federal statutes and implementing regulations.

Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, considers the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); provides clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. - Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Bachelor’s degree and 0‑4 years of relevant experience. Preferred degree programs include Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Hydrology or Water Management, Physical Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, or a closely related field. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience). Lack of post‑secondary education will not be used as the sole basis for denying consideration to any applicant.
