Recognized within Modine as a technical resource for governmental and company environmental and occupational health & safety requirements. The individual must demonstrate leadership in Environmental Management System (EMS) and corporate Safety Program management. They must also understand and manage EH&S matters with a clear comprehension of their role within business operations. A strong track record of accomplishments related to OSHA and EPA compliance, chemical safety, sustainable environmental practices, and injury/illness prevention is preferred.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure compliance to all applicable governmental regulations and internal EH&S policies.
- Follow emerging regulatory developments, assess their potential impact on the company, and institute programs to achieve compliance efficiently.
- Share accountability and responsibility with management to provide guidance and leadership in identifying opportunities to continuously improve performance and attain EH&S objectives.
- Provide effective internal communication of EH&S issues.
- Actively promote and foster a Behavior-Based Safety culture dedicated to eliminating at-risk behaviors and unsafe conditions.
- Provide technical EH&S expertise in combination with knowledge of the company's manufacturing and business processes to minimize waste.
- Possess understanding and apply available technology and equipment to control and mitigate air and water pollution.
- Collect, analyze, and utilize EH&S metrics to eliminate environmental and safety risks and support attainment of company objectives.
- Lead incident investigations including a strong understanding of 5-why and root cause analysis.
- Continuously improve technical knowledge relevant to the position.
- Develop, plan, organize, and administer EH&S training.
- Possess self-motivation, leadership, strong team skills, maintain a positive attitude, and possess a high level of integrity.
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Occupational Safety or Environmental Engineering/Sciences.
- College graduate in the Environmental and/or Health & Safety fields plus 7 years experience, or a Masters degree in these fields with 5+ years experience.
- An in-depth understanding of EH&S regulations, legal ramifications of company activities, and technologically available resources is required.
- Experience managing EHS professionals and influencing staff at all levels.
- Provides creative and analytical evaluation and solution of problems. Manages multiple projects with varying levels of complexity. May have responsibility for major, complex projects.
- Ability to influence and motivate peers and drive positive cultural change.
- May develop and implement complete EH&S programs which require significant creative and analytical skills and have company-wide impact. May be involved in design reviews, major equipment specifications and purchases, environmental remediation projects, and pollution control systems as well as overseeing their installation.
- In-depth knowledge of the processes involved within manufacturing operations.
- Understanding of the business integration of the department function into the manufacturing operation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, and EHS Management Software.
- Adept understanding of chemical safety, ergonomics, material handling, machine hazards, and engineering practices.
