General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing and supervising Company operational processes as needed.

Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors in everything you do.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone. Correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
  • Secure the building: entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
  • Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Responsible for Customer safety, accident prevention, accident reporting, and emergency procedures.
  • Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treat all Customers, Associates, and other leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Recognize Associates using the Company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the Company Dress Code; ensure all Associates adhere to the dress code.
  • Keep all areas of the Store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per best practice.
  • Receive merchandise truck when needed.
  • Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
  • Receive all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies, special deliveries).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms.
  • Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor after processing.
  • Ensure back‑stock is secured and processed per Company policy.
  • Responsible for merchandising of the department including back‑stock.
  • Reduce loss due to damage.
  • Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.
  • Handle floor moves, signing, and promotional signing as needed.
  • Re‑wrap items as needed.
Loss Prevention
  • Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program; maintain a strong Customer service presence on the sales floor, engaging customers and Associates while increasing Loss Prevention awareness.
  • Show integrity and honesty in all interactions; safeguard confidential, cash, credit card, and merchandise information.
  • Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.
  • Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
  • Execute all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Execute all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity; ensure Associates at the Front End meet Company standards.
  • Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the Front End, managing the line to reduce Customer wait time.
  • Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.
  • Control Retail Associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.
  • Ensure all equipment is working properly.
  • Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front End area.
  • Ensure go‑backs are expedited, scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.
  • Teach all Associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
