Objective

Under general supervision, the Recreation Programmer appoints the Seasonal Aquatic Supervisor to assist with planning, promotion, implementation, and supervision of seasonal aquatic programs, staff, and facilities. The Aquatic Supervisor oversees activities at City of Janesville Aquatic Facilities, Rockport and Palmer Pools.

Relationships

Reports to:

Recreation Programmer
Works with seasonal employees, division employees, lifeguards, pool patrons, and the public.
Supervises:
Head Guards, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors and Concessions/Cashiers.

Essential Duties

Assists with planning, promoting, and implementation of aquatic activities.
Supervises facilities, program development, staff training, and maintenance.
Schedules, assigns, monitors work duties, and maintains staff records.
Serves as Head Guard/Aquatics Supervisor on duty as per schedule.
Conducts staff training on rescue skills, EAP, CPR/AED, swim lessons, and facility procedures.
Purchases materials, inspects inventory, and coordinates reservations.
Makes recommendations concerning program structure, policy, and facility improvements.
Handles disciplinary actions for staff and participants.
Monitors program quality, prepares attendance, revenue, and expense reports.
Ensures staff are trained and certified, enforces safety rules, and administers first aid as required.
Responds to emergencies, directs staff, and follows safety regulations.
Handles public inquiries via phone, email, and office contact.
Performs other special projects and duties as assigned or required during regular and non-business hours.

Other Duties
  • Prepares written publicity for promoting aquatic programs.
  • Attends all staff meetings and trainings as requested by supervisor.
  • Assists with concession stand operations and supervises training.
  • Fills in at concession stands as needed and feasible.
  • All other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Education and Prior Experience

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Completion of two years of college or technical school in recreation, physical education, sports management or related field or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Must have prior aquatics experience. At least two years of supervisory experience preferred.
Possess or ability to obtain a valid State of Wisconsin driver’s license.

Other Qualifications
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator Certification preferred or willing to obtain.
  • Certified Food Manager Certification preferred or willing to obtain.

  • Follow city policies and make independent sound decisions.
  • Manage program budget and maintain financial records.
  • Track participation and attendance accurately.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal employees.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Make decisions according to laws, regulations, and city directives.
  • Compose routine correspondence and reports effectively.
  • Comply with safety policies and report unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
