RN Step Down ICU/Intermediate Care Unit (SCU)

Hours:
6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. (3–12 hour shifts)
Bed capacity: 12 beds
Provides compassionate, culturally sensitive, holistic nursing care to patients in a clinical setting, supporting the Mercyhealth nursing mission, practice values and strategic plan. May include variable shifts, weekends, holidays, or on‑call hours. Performs floating to other units as needed.
Responsibilities- Utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and state law.
- Documents according to standards of care.
- Performs assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care.
- Develops, initiates, and executes a patient plan of care tailored to individual needs, as prescribed by physician or clinic policy.
- Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, including shared governance.
- Provides expertise and guidance to other units to support the patient’s longitudinal plan of care.
- Utilizes critical thinking regarding patient safety and experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.
- Participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities, decisions, and peer review process.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- ADN required upon hire; BSN preferred.
- May require specific years of applicable experience to qualify (per department guidelines).
- Licensed as an RN in the state of practice.
- Approved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.
- Other certifications per unit requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP).
