GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Winder Operator is responsible for creating a safe work environment and operating assigned machinery including saws. This position is responsible for safely setting up, operating and maintaining the saw/winder and work area to meet both internal and external customer needs. The individual is detail oriented in ensuring work product meets client specifications as indicated in the work order and is part of a team focused on safely creating products and services that exceed customer expectations in an efficient manner.
This position collaborates with management and manufacturing personnel to ensure an excellent product is delivered to the customer.
- Setup appropriate machinery per job specifications ensuring safety, quality and applying lean strategies.
- Log into jobs and record production data, including closing open work orders and shipping finished goods.
- Read work orders or production schedules to determine specifications such as materials, cutting lines, dimensions and tolerances.
- Guide, stop, hold, and secure work pieces using hand tools and measuring devices.
- Set stops on machine beds, change dies, and adjust components such as rams or power presses when making multiple or successive passes.
- Start machines, monitor operations, and record operational data.
- Operate or tend machines to saw, cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten metal or plastic material.
- Perform machine changeover and material setup.
- Examine work area at beginning and end of each shift and during machine changeover for safety and proper operations.
- Inspect completed work pieces for defects and sort defective pieces accordingly.
- Measure completed work pieces to verify conformance to specifications using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
- Prepare material for shipping, including proper identification, tagging and wrapping.
- Collaborate with various departments to meet customer satisfaction.
- Stack finished goods on pallets.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:
Education and/or Experience- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software, preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), preferred.
- Driver’s License, preferred.
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Write simple correspondence.
- Present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and other employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Compute rate, ratio, and percent, and interpret bar graphs.
- Apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

- Normal work environment is a manufacturing facility.
- Noise is moderately loud with machinery and forklift traffic.
- Employees are exposed to warm and cool temperatures depending on weather conditions.
