Overview
Provides support with the daily actives of a medical office by performing the following duties and other duties as assigned. Work schedule is variable including days (majority), evenings and weekends. May be asked to work holidays and/or overtime.
Responsibilities- Answer phones, takes and relays messages
- Enter messages and prescription refills in the EPIC system
- Read and respond to Patient MyChart Messages
- Sort postal and interoffice mail for distribution
- Make appointments for patients
- Check in patients for appointments verifying and updating demographic, guarantor and insurance information
- Register new patients in our computer system
- Work closely with Registration Specialists to ensure all patients have an accurate registration in the billing system
- Collect co-payments and work with PFCs for self-pay payments as needed
- Balance cash drawer and fill out the cash drawer logs
- Work referral work queues to call patients and schedule appointments and link referrals to appointments
- Make public address and announcements as instructed
- Page personnel as necessary
- Be able to properly call in a ‘Code’ to switchboard and be able to announce ‘Codes’ properly while working in switchboard room, and if an alarm sounds, the Switchboard Operator will immediately contact Mercyhealth East Administration. It should be noted that the Fire Alarm Board automatically contacts the Fire Alarm Company wherein the Facilities Manager is contacted for verification.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Certification and LicensureN/A
Skills and AbilitiesPrevious reception or medical facility experience preferred. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Keyboarding efficiency at 35 wpm required. Computer knowledge preferred. Appointment and demographic programs utilized.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
