OverviewAt SHINE Technologies, we are building the future of clean, limitless energy through next‑generation nuclear fusion. The Fusion Linear Accelerator for Radiation Effects (FLARE) team will operate and develop the linear accelerator and gas separation system, drive reliability testing and performance projects, lead commissioning and qualification activities, and support FLARE business customers.
Responsibilities- Complete required training and operate a neutron driver linear accelerator and a tritium purification system in accordance with written procedures.
- Participate in a training program to achieve a State of Wisconsin Radioactive Materials License Authorized User qualification.
- Design and conduct radiation effects tests using the linear accelerator and gas separation system.
- Evaluate experimental data to understand failures, recommend improvements, and implement changes.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to assess tritium usage and its impact on equipment and neutron output.
- Create and implement work plans that adhere to radiation safety procedures, maintenance, and troubleshooting standards.
- Participate in facility readiness reviews, safety assessments, and system upgrades to enhance testing capabilities.
- Utilize test equipment to detect and measure radiation activity and troubleshoot performance issues.
- Execute customer projects and collaborate cross‑functionally to meet requirements and timelines.
- Maintain a strong culture of safety and compliance, following all applicable radiation safety, quality assurance, and environmental health and safety procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field; graduate research experience may be considered.
- Two or more years of relevant experience in radiation testing, nuclear engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Deep understanding of general engineering principles and familiarity with radiation safety and NRC or DOE regulations.
- Experience with data analysis, technical reporting, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with standard computer software and data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python) preferred.
- Experience with Monte Carlo radiation transport modeling (e.g., MCNP, FLUKA) is desirable.
- Knowledge of gas separation and accelerator theory is desirable.
