Objective
Under general direction of the Camp Supervisor and guidance/supervision of Recreation Programmer in the absence of Camp Supervisor, the Head Camp Counselor is responsible for providing on-site supervision for camp staff and participants in a safe manner. This person provides good communication between counselors, campers, parents, and supervisor. The Head Camp Counselor designs, prepares, and organizes daily camp activities/lesson plans while enforcing rules/discipline plan.
Reports to
:
Camp Supervisor and the Recreation Programmer in the absence of the Camp Supervisor.
Has regular work contact with Division and Office Heads, City employees, parents, campers, C.I.T.s, and the general public.
Supervises
:
Camp Counselors in assigned age group and Counselors in Training.
Kids Count Camp Head Camp Counselor: (30–45 hours per week for 11-12 weeks)
(1 For 5-8 Year Olds and 1 For 9-12 Year Olds)
Must be available to work the whole duration of camp (dates given at interview)
Must be available for mandatory training during May 18-June 13, 2026.
Essential Duties- Manages camp administration and planning by maintaining camper registrations and records, providing Camp Supervisor with accurate information for attendance injury, problem and program evaluation reports, creating camp calendars with staff assistance; assisting with the organization of field and community trips, and planning, organizing, preparing all camp activities.
- Plans, coordinates, organizes, and leads age-appropriate camp activities in a fun and safe manner by preparing in advance daily activities; by being ready for daily activities and programs through organizing needed equipment, supplies, and instructions for activities, being responsible for coordinating and producing daily camp schedules, coordinates with Counselors on activity leadership and/or leads activities or delegates leading activities to staff, understands children's differences and needs while reporting issues to Camp Supervisor, models good sportsmanship, and encourages participation through positive reinforcement.
- Enforces camp rules by understanding and enforcing all camp and Recreation Division rules and procedures, enforces camp rules in a prompt, fair, and consistent manner, handles minor discipline or camper behavior issues while reporting both minor and major issues to Camp Supervisor for proper documentation and/or handles in their absence and assists Camp Supervisor with problem reports or completes in their absence, Maintains familiarity with specific duties in the case of emergencies.
- Ensures camper safety by maintaining a hazard-free camp environment, corrects or reports known safety issues immediately, works with Camp Supervisor to make changes to activities or procedures if needed, provides proper first aid and emergency care as needed while reporting to Supervisor for proper documentation and assists with problem reports, reports major issues to Camp Supervisor and Recreation Programmer, serves as a positive role model to the participants.
