Records Clerk 2nd and 3rd Shift
City of Janesville is seeking a Records Clerk 2nd and 3rd Shift. Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about providing top-notch customer service? If so, we want YOU to join our Records team at the City of Janesville Police Department as a Records Clerk.
As a key member of our team, you will handle a variety of specialized clerical duties, including typing, transcribing, and filing dictated police reports, processing important documents, and assisting the public both in person and over the phone.
- Accurately type and file reports, complaints, warrants, and other essential documents
- Maintain our records management system, ensuring precise data entry and organization
- Provide outstanding customer service to citizens with non-emergency inquiries

- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of general clerical experience and data entry/database support experience is required.
- Access to personal or public transportation for job-related duties.
- Must pass thorough background investigation that includes no felony convictions.
- Prior experience in a law enforcement agency is desired but not required.
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the Human Resources Office may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.
Compensation & BenefitsThe starting hourly rate for this position is $23.72 ($49,337 annually); this is a non-exempt position. This position is also eligible for annual economic adjustments and performance-based adjustments, as approved by the City Council.
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, group life insurance, short-term and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, and other perks. The City of Janesville participates in the Wisconsin Retirement System, with the 2026 employer and employee contribution totaling 14.4% of earnings. When combined with salary and benefits, total compensation may range from $63,389 to $79,829 per year, depending on benefits chosen.
New hires may receive benefits on their date of hire if hired before the 15th of the month; otherwise, benefits begin on the 1st of the following month. Part-time employees are eligible for a smaller benefits package based on hours worked per week.
