Overview

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
To provide a safe, sanitary, orderly, and attractive environment for patients, hospital employees and visitors. Responsible for repetitive tasks in routine cleaning and special assignments in designated areas and other assigned areas.

To provide a safe, sanitary, orderly, and attractive environment for patients, hospital employees and visitors. Responsible for repetitive tasks in routine cleaning and special assignments in designated areas and other assigned areas.

Full-time Position – benefited position working 80 hours per two week pay period. Days of work are Monday - Friday from 2:30pm to 11:00pm with 1 weekend a month and holidays as needed. Will be on the weekend on call rotation.

Responsibilities
  • Interacts with patients of all age groups (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults) while performing duties.
  • Cleans patient rooms, corridors, service areas, lounges, offices and assigned areas.
  • Cleans and makes up discharged or transferred patient units.
  • Cleans rest rooms and replenishes essentials.
  • Cleans stairwells, elevators and baseboards.
  • Collects linen and disposes of trash to designated area.
  • Performs tasks as assigned on cleaning schedules including washing walls, washing windows, cleaning drapes, blinds, refrigerators, etc.
  • Washes IV stands, wheelchairs, instrument carts, utensils, etc. with germicidal solutions and transports to proper area.
  • Moves equipment and furniture for cleaning and rearrangement.
  • Operates various types of cleaning equipment.
  • Cleans work area and equipment at the end of the shift.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • PREPARATION AND TRAINING - Must be able to follow oral or written orders.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE - No formal experience is required; on-the-job training is provided. Previous institutional housekeeping experience desirable.
  • ATTENDANCE - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
  • INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT - Work is performed independently. Employees must use his or her judgement to plan and carry out their work in situations where methods and procedures are established.
  • CONTACTS WITH OTHERS - Frequent contact with patients, visitors and nursing personnel.
  • SUPERVISING THE WORK OF OTHERS - Usually works independently. Does not oversee work of others.
  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR WELFARE OF OTHERS - Carelessness could frequently result in moderate harm to patients, visitors, and co-workers caused by wet floors or improper cleaning.
  • MENTAL/VISUAL EFFORT - Must be able to speak and write English in an understandable manner. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS - Indoor work; good environment; hands frequently in contact with water and cleaning solutions. May be requested to work on shifts other than the one hired. Subject to falls from wet floors or reactions from dust and disinfectants. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Practices Standard Precautions. OSHA Job Classification:
    Category 1 with exposure to Bloodborne pathogens.
  • MATERIALS AND/OR EQUIPMENT - Operates a variety of cleaning equipment. Costs are minimal and limited to a single cost center.
  • HAZARDS - No apparent exposure to physical injury; exposure to disease and infection when cleaning contaminated rooms.
  • PROMOTION - No formal line of promotion.
  • BACKGROUND CHECK - A background check is required.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT - These are physical requirements of the position as typically performed. Inability to meet one or more of these may not automatically disqualify a candidate; accommodation may be available.
