We’re creating a new Search Platform Squad within our Core Platform organization to build a first‑class Search Architecture that supports dynamic product growth. Search Platform defines the standards and owns the search framework to help our engineering squads build high‑quality, performant search experiences.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Search Platform Squad, you’ll work on the foundations that make our search fast, relevant, observable and reliable ’ll design and build services, pipelines, and tooling that support the full search lifecycle – from data ingestion and indexing through query execution, relevance tuning, and experimentation.

• Design and build platform services and tooling for search across Housecall Pro
• Define and roll out conventions for document modeling, index design, query patterns, and ranking so teams build on a consistent foundation
• Own and evolve our search infrastructure
  , focusing on scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency
• Partner with product squads to design search‑backed features, review their implementations, and act as a consulting partner on search topics
• Implement and improve search observability, query optimization, caching, and fallbacks
• Take part in system design and architecture discussions on performance, scalability, and reliability of distributed search systems
• Mentor engineers in search concepts, distributed systems, and platform thinking, and evangelize search best practices across the org

• 5+ years of experience as a backend or platform engineer working on large‑scale, distributed systems
• Experience with at least one modern server‑side stack (e.g., Ruby/Rails, Python, Java, Kotlin, Node, etc.)
• Proven experience with Elasticsearch and/or Open Search is highly preferred, including designing and operating clusters in production
• Solid understanding of vector databases, search infrastructure, indexing strategies, and query optimization is a huge plus
• Hands‑on experience with production observability and reliability
• Practical knowledge of caching and performance tuning for networked services and search‑heavy workloads
• Strong communication skills and comfort working in a remote‑first, asynchronous environment
• Nice to have: experience with Ruby / Rails, event‑driven architectures, MySQL at scale, or previous work on an internal platform or infrastructure team
• This position requires fluency in both Polish and English

You’ll join a small and senior squad focused on cross‑cutting search concerns, working closely with Product Platform teams, IAM, Dev Ops, and SRE. We value clear ownership, pragmatic engineering, and iterating in small, safe steps. You’ll have room to shape our long‑term search strategy while shipping meaningful improvements.

📌 Our primary technology stack at HCP is Ruby.
To be effective in this role, you’ll need to learn it. We offer support in the learning process, tailored to your needs and any prior experience with Ruby. This may include mentoring from our experienced engineering team or access to a paid online course that you can complete during working hours as part of your onboarding. The exact form of support will be agreed upon based on insights from your selection process.
